"Final Cut Pro 4.5 and Final Cut Express 3.0 may drop frames with Mac OS X 10.4.9"
This is a support document from Apple. Apple says the problem is dropped frames when capturing to firewire drives. Apple recommends capturing to an internal ATA drive. Or you folks running FCP 4.5 can stick with an older version of 10.4.
